About

Fantasy Music

Fantasy sports for music fans. Draft real artists, set your lineup, and score points from the streams they earn each week.

The idea

Fantasy sports are compelling because they give you skin in the game — you watch games differently when you have a player rostered. We wanted that same feeling for music fans: a reason to care more deeply about the charts, new releases, and emerging artists.

FM is free to play and open to anyone. Invite your friends, draft your favourite artists, and let the streams decide.

Scoring

Points are new streams. Every week we pull the cumulative stream count for every tracked artist and subtract last week's total. The difference is their streams for the week — that's your score.

Every eligible stream is exactly one point. There are no position, genre, bonus, or catch-up multipliers. The team with the higher total wins the matchup.

Example

7 starters earn 12M, 8M, 5M, 4M, 3M, 2M, and 1M streams. Your score: 35M. Opponent: 34.2M → you win.

Roster

Your roster has a fixed number of slots split between starters (who score) and bench (who don't). The commissioner sets these at league creation.

Max roster size12 artists (default)
Starting lineup7 flexible starters (default)
Bench5 artists (default)
League size10 managers (default)

Set starters before Saturday 00:00 UTC, when the scoring period begins. Bench players' streams remain visible but do not count toward the matchup score. Roster and lineup changes reopen Friday at 00:00 UTC.

Draft

The draft uses snake order: the #1 pick in round 1 picks last in round 2, first in round 3, and so on. Draft order is set by the commissioner.

The default pick clock is 60 seconds, with faster, slower, and multi-hour draft timers available. Queues and autodraft keep the room moving, while commissioners can pause, resume, undo, or force a pick.

Once the draft completes, the season schedule generates automatically and the league moves to ACTIVE status.

Waivers

Free agents (any artist not on a roster) are claimed through waivers. Each league uses one of two modes:

Priority order (default)

Teams ranked #1–#N (initially reverse draft order). Lowest position number picks first. Winning a claim moves you to the back, so priority naturally rotates. Ties break by submission time.

FAAB (Free Agent Acquisition Budget)

Each manager gets $200 by default (configurable) for the season. Submit private bids — highest bidder wins and spends that FAAB permanently. Tied bids use the league's configured tiebreaker.

Claims process each Friday at 00:00 UTC, opening the full Friday transaction window before Saturday scoring begins. You can cancel a pending claim until processing begins.

Trades

Any manager can propose a trade to any other manager, including any number of artists on each side. Offers expire after 48 hours if the recipient doesn't respond.

Direct (default)

Trades execute immediately when both accept.

Commissioner review

Commissioner can approve or veto after both parties accept.

League vote

A strict majority of all members (excluding the trading parties) must approve.

Schedule

The season is a round-robin — every team plays every other team at least once. Default regular season: 10 weeks.

Weeks run Saturday 00:00 UTC through Friday 00:00 UTC. Rosters and lineups lock while scoring is active, then reopen for the Friday transaction window. Winners are finalized after reliable stream data is available.

Playoffs

After the regular season, top teams advance to a 3-week playoff bracket: Quarterfinals → Semifinals → Championship. Single-elimination. Higher seeds get the home side.

The championship winner is the league champion. Their season recap appears on the Summary tab once the league completes.

Standings & tiebreakers

Sorted by wins first, then points-for (cumulative streams across all matchups). Playoff seeding follows the same order — #1 seed plays the lowest qualifier in the quarterfinals.
